PNF Advises FG To Establish Charity Ministry For Less Privileged

To stem the economic downtown beyond palliatives, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was on Wednesday urged to establish a National Charity Trust Fund, (NCTF) to raise money from privileged Nigerians and philanthropists.

The fund, according to Patriotic Nigerians Forum (PNF) led by Eric Oluwole said the fund should be used to meet the essential needs of the poorest people, especially orphans.

While speaking to journalists in Lagos State, Oluwole hinted that Nigeria can raise no fewer than N5trillion through a charity fund raising to help the poor, saying that Nigeria has no fewer than 5000 Philanthropic individuals and organisations who can donate freely to help the social safety net of the Federal Government.

    IMG_ORG_1711028276744

The group eaually commended the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for dealing with the very messy economic situation he inherited.

‘We call on him to, as part of the ways to revamp the economy, bring all Philanthropic organisations and individuals in Nigerian together in a round table. Each year, Mr President should appeal to them to make year contributions into a Charity Trust Fund, (CTF).

Oluwole explained that the fund should be used to address the plight of poor children across the country. From our research, there are about 2000 philanthropic individuals and organisations in Nigeria each of which is in a position to raise up to 20m every year to support the fund. This fund can hit N4trillion from this fund.

The group called on President Tinubu to establish the Office of Philanthropy Commission with a Special Adviser who will coordinate Nigerian philanthropists all over the world for effective fund raising for the prosperity, peace and stability of Nigeria.

The PNF President Mr Eric Oluwole also called on the President to honour an outstanding American based philanthropist who is a Professor of Medicine from Imo State, Prof Emeka Umerah. He is reputed to run one of the largest orphanages in Nigeria.

According to him “We demand from Federal Government to honour and recognize someone like Professor Emeka Umerah based on his impact to the masses, for him to serve more.”

“We challenge our media friends to call out to other philanthropists in the country to do more in order to bridge the widening gap of poverty and bring hope to a huge but despairing population of children without parents all over Nigeria.”

“This fund should be used to address the plight of poor children across the country. From our research, there are about 2000 philanthropic individuals and organisations in Nigeria each of which is in a position to raise up to 20m every year to support the fund. This fund can hit N4trillion from this fund.”

“We call on President Tinubu to establish the Office of Philanthropy Commission with a Special Adviser who will coordinate Nigerian philanthropists all over the world for effective fund raising for the prosperity, peace and stability of Nigeria.”

Oluwole also expressed concern on how Nigerians are passing through very difficult moments, he said on the economic front, living and coping with the harsh realities have become extremely difficult. Many have lost their jobs. Some factories have closed down while some are planning to do so. There are historical explanations for the downtown.

He revealed that apart from years of misrule, the economic situation in the country was compounded by the 2023 naira swap which led to the closure of 2million Small and Medium Scale Enterprises, (SMS).

His words “Many Nigerians were forced to return their little earned money to their banks but returning the money back to them became difficult. Many poor traders lost out during this terrific Naira swap window. This was made even more difficult due to the removal of oil subsidy by the Government of President Mohammadu Buhari having stopped in the 2-023 budget the funding of oil subsidy from June last year. The removal was sudden, so also were the implications spontaneous.’”

He said the problem in Nigeria is complicate by insecurity which has led to many deaths and killings with many children becoming orphans.

“There is violence in the land, he said. He observed that the major victims of this trend are Nigerian youths who constitute about 70 percent of the population. This population are people under 30 while some 42 percent are under 15 years. The harsh economy hits children like a hot knife. Worst are orphans. In Nigeria, there is an estimated population of 17.5 million orphans.”

“Worst hit is the North East where insurgency is well pronounced. The United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) noted that over 700,000 children will suffer acute malnutrition in the North East. The entire population of the North East is 26 million, some 12 percent of the total population of Nigeria.”

He said at the group’s annual meeting of the The Patriotic Nigerians Forum (PNF) in late 2023, decided to focus in 2024 on orphans the starting point was to embark on a tour of Nigeria to feel the impulse.

He said ‘We then in early March organised a tour of the country. We saw poverty in its grimiest form. We saw poor and malnourished children. We saw people without hope. We saw hunger in its raw form. This has raised a new consciousness in us. We deeply concerned about the plight of these children, especially orphans.’

He spoke further that during the tour, ‘we cannot but mention the sterling example of an American-based Professor of Medicine, who through his Orphanage Foundation has built and donated an Orphanage in Imo State, Owerri.’

He said Prof Umerah singlehandedly built and donated the Dr Emeka Orphanage Home in Owerri, Imo State. He is the President and Executive Program Director, of the Public Policy Advocacy and Research Council, Inc (PPARC). The PPARC is a non-partisan political think tank aiding policy makers in the research and advocacy of public policy, research, and education in the United States. Besides, the council performs lawful advocacy and lobbying activities in the USA.

He observed that apart from other projects he has donated in other parts of the Southeast, Professor Umerah is known all over the world as someone who has brought immense joy to orphans in Nigeria.

He said the group believes any one that wants to serve the country in any capacity should make a difference towards the development of Nigeria. ‘Prof Emeka Umerah is an excellent example. In Imo state, we saw hundreds of orphans that have been given hope and uplifted from despair. This is one of the greatest signpost of nation building in a collective sense, not leaving development all alone to the government.’

While commending Prof Umerah for some ongoing projects to support the Federal Government of Nigeria, the PNF calls on Nigerian philanthropists to do more in their states by emulating him

  • Why Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Should Not Make Transfers

Why Mr. President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu Should Not Make Transfers

Mr. President, I read the intention or, perhaps a conclusive arrangement to move the basic capital interest of the Humanitarian Ministry to Finance. If this be true, Mr. President, I have an objection and do assume majority of our citizens would reasonably admit that the movement or,  proposal to move a most sensitive structure in the Humanitarian Ministry is needlessly unnecessary. However, the Social Investment Programme is the core definition and fulcrum for such Ministry aimed at assessing, evaluating and critically solving problems identified and significantly assuaging or, alleviating poverty; remodelling & remodifying hopes for the vulnerable people of Nigeria who of course are disadvantaged by poorly managed governance in time past.

What accounts for failure is not the impossible task to get situations remedied. Rather, it is the will power to apparently or, constructively engage people with the right conscience to do justice when appointed to man a Ministry or, any similar call or, cause for service. Unfortunately, the character and composition of these individuals, their tastes and appetites differ largely from the objective of such (assignment) Ministry established for a specific role and purpose. These purposes are not limited to distribution of goodies, cash & valuable items otherwise necessaries as lawyers will say. The Ministry is to meet the immediate needs of vulnerable citizens and the primary objective must as such be implemented towards the same goal. A Ministry of such nature are for men of good conscience. Otherwise, how could one explain a 36year old lady, Beta Edu who although on suspension, making transfers and diverting funds to privies, allies and cronies. A Ministry with a clear-cut mandate & disposition to limit poverty or, where possible eradicate hunger and low self esteem occasioned by vulnerable circumstances wherein the dignity of human persons and other fundamental rights enshrined in chapter Four of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) are grossly violated hence the need for such Ministry to not only pacify but also give hope to vulnerable people especially those who suffer negligence excused by obvious ignorance. (This is not to isolate the importance of Chapter Two of the same 1999 Constitution where of course, Economic & Social rights are made non justiciable hence unenforceable except & unless legislated by the National & State Assembly and made justiciable. ..)

This is the same Ministry that has suddenly become a conduit pipe for heartless individuals who not only breached the policy statement of the Ministry but also committed offence against humanity. Crime against humanity is therefore not limited to Murder, Slavery or, bloodletting et al. It also extend beyond the caprice of sanctimonious attitude, character and posture. Not even a Pastor or, Iman could reasonably deliver and remain deliberate in discharging the responsibilities of the Ministry’s budget. Except and unless a man of good conscience who’s not gluttonous and driven by material benefits may be useful in cursory approach to deliver on the Ministry’s objectives.

Consequently, it must be noted more copiously that the Ministry only suffered mistrust and not entirely wronged to incubate Social Investment Programmes. Nothing, therefore, should warrant or, justify transferring the fulcrum of the Ministry to Finance under Mr. Wale Edun. This proposition is not only wrong but also defeats the basic reasons why the Ministry was initially informed and established by the administration of President Muhammad Buhari GCFR and had it tested under the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo shortly before the Tinubu administration. There’s nothing wrong with the structure, and composition of the Humanitarian Ministry. Rather, I challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (aka Emilokan) to get the right hands on the plough. People of good conscience like Professor Isak Bello who reformed his sphere of influence having been appointed by President Muhammad Buhari during his reign.

Dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, I under the current situation & circumstance under your watch. The challenge & expectation of leadership, especially your most recent admission of facts; To not only take responsibility but apparently seeking seeking understanding from the good people of Nigerian citizens while giving assurances to

renew our hopes. While I wish you the very best, it is my believe and prayer that you stumble on men of good conscience who can jointly pilot the affairs of Nigeria with you. Men who are not material driven or, given to frivolous and flippant excuses to undermine expectation from our collective service to humanity.

Mr. President, I admit from your days as Lagos Governor in 1999 that you verily know leadership is a serious business and may Almighty Allah grant you the wisdom to take decisive and reasonable actions to benefit mankind and humanity. Remember,

  • Ogun Monarch Takes A Stand, Writes Arise TV Over Allegations of Infractions Against IBD

Ogun Monarch Takes A Stand, Writes Arise TV Over Allegations of Infractions Against IBD

A first class monarch in Ogun State, Eselu of Iselu, Oba Akintunde Akinyemi has berated the roles played by a Private Television Station based in Lagos, Arise Television in the broadcast of some defamatory and unfounded allegations of gun running and smuggling leveled against Alhaji Ibrahim Dende Egungbohun as unprofessional

Eselu, in an open letter addressed to the Television Station shed more lights into the business activities of Alhaji Egungbohun, popularly called IBD Dende and urged the station to always verify their facts before going into the air to broadcast them.

    According to the letter;

AN OPEN LETTER TO ARISE TELEVISION ON DEFAMATION OF THE PERSON OF ALHAJI IBRAHIM DENDE EGUNGBOHUN

I, Oba Akintunde AKINYEMI, JP, FCIMN, The Eselu of Iselu Kingdom, a First Class Monarch in Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State, write this Open Letter to debunk the information which one Investigative Journalist called Fisayo Soyombo has put in the public domain and was also discussed recently on Arise Television Nigeria.

According to the undercover, she uncovered a notorious smuggler, IBD Dende, a hotel owner in Ogun State also known as Ilaro biggest smuggler who has numerous allies in government and media and has evaded prosecution several times due to his proximity to power. The undercover used lots of unprintable words to describe Alhaji Ibrahim Egungbohun.

To set the records straight and debunk the baseless investigation which the undercover has put in the public domain, I want to state unequivocally that:

    (i) I have been a First Class Monarch since the year 2005 and Alhaji Ibrahim Egungbohun popularly called IBD Dende is one of my subjects with high integrity and pedigree.

(ii) IBD Dende is not a smuggler, but a Clearing and Forwarding Agent who carries out his legitimate work of importation of goods and services through the land border just like other Clearing and Forwarding Agents who carry out their jobs through the Apapa Port, etc.

(iii) The investigation carried out by the undercover was done to defame the person of IBD Dende because the source(s) of her information was questionable. How on earth would a journalist interrogate certain people in the community instead of interfacing with the security agents whose jobs are to secure the border areas in the country like the Nigeria Customs Service, the Directorate of State Security (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, etc. Without any doubts, those she interrogated were the enemies of IBD Dende, so the job done by the undercover was to discredit him.

(iv) Arise Television should not have allowed the airing of any investigative journalism that was done without carrying out their own checks with the security agencies who are in the best position to confirm or reject any investigations carried out on any personalities in the society. This simply means that the Arise Television is putting the cart before the horse. It is very bad for Arise Television presenters to sit in the comfort of their station and criticize an innocent, prominent citizen of this country without doing any due diligence. A popular television station like Arise News needs to avoid airing investigations which are done to destroy the names of law abiding citizens of the country.

    (v) The assertion that IBD Dende had been arrested several times and nothing happened to him was a baseless statement. It is a normal thing to invite people for questioning and if the security agents are satisfied with any suspects, they will definitely release him. The undercover should not usurp the work of the security agents who have not found anything incriminating on different occasions that IBD Dende was interrogated. It is clear that the undercover and the Arise Television presenters were indicting the security agents who are numerous at our border area and are doing their checks on business men and women who carry out their clearing and forwarding work legitimately.

(vi) The undercover, Fisayo Soyombo should desist from defaming the name of people like IBD Dende who has been contributing to the development of the country through employment creation for our youths. Where was the undercover when the Fulani terrorists invaded Yewa Communities and started killing our people. Thanks to our amiable Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Ogun State House of Assembly who banned open grazing in the state at the time to put an end to the heinous acts of the Fulani terrorists.

(vii) Journalists should stop engaging in dirty journalism and start talking about serious issues like the development of the border communities by the Border Development Commission so as to secure and make life meaningful in the border areas. If the commission is made to perform its duties effectively and efficiently, all manners of illegalities going on will be nipped in the bud.

(viii) Arise Television Management should rein in on their presenters who did not do due diligence before going ahead to criticize an innocent business man like IBD Dende. Their action in this regard is presenting the Arise Television as a station that is ready to defame good citizens of our country that supported Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid to become the President of Nigeria.

(ix) The action of the presenters show how unfair they are to people living at border areas and we are not happy with the Arise Television for jumping into the conclusion that my subject, IBD Dende is a big smuggler who smuggles guns and other illicit commodities into our dear country. His name has gone viral with baseless and false claims from one undercover doing a hatchet job for some people that may not like the fantastic societal status of IBD Dende.

Finally, I want to implore the Arise Television to retract the unfounded and defamatory statements made against Alhaji Ibrahim Egungbohun (i.e IBD Dende) or else we will be forced seek legal redress.

    Thank you.
