The Abeokuta North Medical Community Development Service (CDS) group of the Ogun State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) organized a community outreach in partnership with the Ogun State Emergency Medical Ambulance Services under the leadership of the Director, Dr Hassan Adelakun.
The Medical CDS team, led by Dr Opeoluwa Oladipo, organized the programme under the leadership and supervision of the Local Government Inspector, Mrs. Pedro Mercy. The programme was aimed at expanding awareness of emergency healthcare services among members of the community.
The first outreach, held on Tuesday, 24th February 2026, commenced at Enugada and extended into the interior areas of Lafenwa Market up to Rounda, where community members and market participants were sensitized on the ongoing emergency ambulance services provided by the Ogun State Government via the Ogun State Ambulance and Emergency Medical Services.
During the exercise, the team educated the public on the availability, accessibility, and importance of the emergency ambulance services, as well as how to contact the service in times of emergency. The outreach successfully impacted members of the community and helped spread awareness of the state’s emergency medical response system.
The market community actively participated in the sensitization exercise. Several marketters and other community members saved the emergency contact numbers on their mobile phones, while some pasted the contact details on their vehicles for easy access during emergencies.
The outreach was conducted in collaboration with the NYSC Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigerian Red Cross Society of the LG who participated actively in the sensitization activities.
Furthermore, the team visited the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), where informational flyers and materials were distributed to transport operators. Additional materials were displayed and pasted in the Director’s office to ensure wider visibility and accessibility of the emergency contact information.
The LGI, Mrs Pedro Mercy, appreciated all partners for a successful outreach.
