The Chairman of Abeokuta North Local Government, Akomoje, Ogun State, Hon. Dr. ‘Lanre Oyegbola-Sodipo, has joined the Ogun State Government and the good people of the state in celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the creation of Ogun State, describing the Golden Jubilee as a significant milestone worthy of reflection, appreciation, and renewed commitment to development.

Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo recalled that Ogun State was created on February 3, 1976, out of the former Western Region, noting that its creation laid a solid foundation for a state built on strong ideals, clear vision, and purposeful leadership.

According to him, the Golden Jubilee celebration offers an opportunity to acknowledge the remarkable strides recorded over the past five decades while recommitting to deeper and more sustainable development for a prosperous future.

“The 50th anniversary of Ogun State is an invitation to celebrate our collective progress while recommitting ourselves to building a greater, more prosperous state for generations yet unborn,” he stated.

The Abeokuta North LG Chairman paid glowing tribute to the founding fathers and past leaders whose sacrifices, resilience, and visionary leadership contributed immensely to the growth, stability, and national relevance of Ogun State.

He listed distinguished sons and daughters of the state—particularly from Abeokuta North Local Government—such as former President Olusegun Obasanjo; the late business mogul and philanthropist, Alhaji Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (M.K.O); the late Chief Bisi Onabanjo; Chief Obafemi Awolowo; Nobel Laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka; the late Chief Ernest Shonekan; Sir Adetokunbo Ademola; the late educationist Tai Solarin; former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; and Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, among others.

He described these eminent personalities as “definers of the embedded glory of Ogun State,” whose enduring legacies continue to inspire excellence, leadership, and service to humanity.

Dr. Oyegbola-Sodipo further commended the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, for what he described as purposeful leadership, inclusive governance, and an all-sector development drive, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, economic revitalisation, and social investment across the state.

According to him, the Governor’s unwavering commitment to prioritising critical sectors of the economy has further strengthened Ogun State’s status as one of Nigeria’s leading industrial and economic hubs.
Speaking during the Golden Jubilee celebrations held at the Gateway International Stadium, Abeokuta, the Chairman urged residents of Abeokuta North Local Government and the state at large to remain united, peaceful, and committed to the continuous growth and development of Ogun State.
He also called on youths to emulate the values, discipline, patriotism, and leadership legacy of the state’s past heroes, stressing that such commitment would ensure Ogun State remains a reference point of honour, excellence, and progress in Nigeria.

The colourful anniversary celebration was attended by key officials of Abeokuta North Local Government, including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Tayelolu Egbeyemi; Councillors; the Secretary to the Local Government, Engr. Mutiat Agbaje; Supervisors; Special Advisers; Special Assistants; Senior Special Assistants; Political Assistants; the Head of Local Government Administration, Mrs. Kikelomo Munirat Ajayi; Directors; and Heads of Departments.
