Obafemi Owode Local Government has won the overall prize of the Opon Ayo game, organized to mark this year Lisabi festival held at Ake Palace, Abeokuta.
The competition which began on the 5th of February, where AYEDUN SEUN emerged the winner of the semi finalist, Male category at the Obafemi Owode Local Government Secretariat, venue of the game. Later proceeded to the final round where he competed with contestants from other five local governments and emerged overall winner, presented with the trophy as the star prize, cash, a bag of rice and vegetable oil.
Meanwhile, the game was organized between the local governments in Egba zone, Male and Female categories where they picked the winners among 6 local governments that later competed at the final stage at Ake palace, Abeokuta.
The 39th edition of Lisabi festival kick start with series of activities. Opon Ayo is one of the major sporting events hosted annually across the 6 local governments in Egba division comprises, Obafemi Owode, Ewekoro, Ifo, Abeokuta North, Abeokuta South and Odeda respectively.
According to the report gathered, this year Ayo game gained more pronouncement as the spectators came from far and near to cheer the contestants, other spectators outside the state were also in attendant.
Receiving the trophy, Amb. Adesina ‘Lanre Ogunsola, FCPA, Executive Chairman of Obafemi Owode Local Government was delighted, as he congratulated the winner, Ayedun Seun who dislodged all his opponents to clinch the trophy.
He stressed that the council is recognized globally for number one position in many landmark achievements in the history of Ogun State.
In a rap up message, Mrs. Adeyemo, Director Community and Youth Development Department thanked the Executive Chairman for providing necessary logistics in supporting the teeming youths for showcasing their talent, which has helped in reducing crime and other social vices.
