KOLA.SODEINDE, ABEOKUTA

You will agree with me that the primary election time table of Independent National Electoral Commission for the State House of Assembly is today Wednesday 20th of May 2026, the Former Speaker of Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Samson Tunji Egbetokun has set record straight that the All Progressive Congress (APC) political wigs in Obafemi-Owode Local Government should allow members to demonstrate their votes to the love of their choice that this time around; no political Leader should handpick candidate or influence candidate on the APC members in the State constituency.
Rt. Hon. Egbetokun stated this in a Release that he is not in opposition with any non-indigene to contest any elective position in the Local Government, added that Local Government has always been open, accommodating, and fair-minded; but this time around, the Major political wigs in whom his people reverence most in the Local Government should give rooms for people to decide who to be their choice of Candidate in Obafemi-Owode State Constituency.
He succinctly explained that in the last primary election in 2023 which was conducted in the Local Government Secretariat, the imposed Aspirant, Hon. Damilola Soneye of the Ogun State House of Assembly Obafemi-Owode State Constituency did not win the election but another Aspirant won which was politically manipulated, aligned with the plea of former Ogun State Governor, Chief Olusegun Osoba.
further said Hon. Soneye is presently representing the Local Government for the Second term now who wants another re-contest for Ogun State House of Assembly Obafemi-Owode State Constituency for the third term in whom indigenes claimed is not from Obafemi-Owode Local Government but hailed from Ijebu-Igbo.
” For this third term, however, we will not give room for anyone to beg us again. We have also appealed to Baba Osoba to pick anybody from Obafemi Owode who is not from another local government in Ogun State. If the candidate is to come from Ofada Ward, so be it. If Baba chooses to pick someone from another state, we have no objection. But for them to insist that it must be someone from another local government within Ogun State to represent us in Obafemi Owode, we do not want it, and we will not accept it again,” Rt. Hon. Egbetokun set the record straight.
He, however, re-echoed his plea to Baba Olusegun Osoba to pick an indigene, a Son or Daughter of the soil, to represent them. he spitted that if insisted it may lead to chaos in the forthcoming election stated he does not want that to transpire in the Local Government.
